UPDATE: Giffords is alive and listed in Critical Condtion. A total of 13 suffered gunshot wounds, including at least one child.
UPDATE: Unconfirmed reports of a federal Judge shot and killed. Has been CONFIRMED.
UPDATE: Conflicting reports on Giffords status. Fox, CNN and others are reporting she is dead, but Darci Slaten, University Medical Center public affairs officer says Giffords is in surgery.
UPDATE: Authorities have confirmed 6 dead, others injured. Giffords status has been listed as ‘Critical’. Police have shooter in custody.
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, of Arizona, was shot in the head outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, according to NPR Radio.
Giffords condition remains unclear at this time.
It is reported that Giffords was shot at close range.
At least 9 other people were also injured in the shooting.

TUCSON, Arizona (Reuters) – Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona died after being shot in the head while meeting constituents at a grocery store in Tucson, NPR reported on Saturday.
Giffords, a 40-year-old Democrat in her third term in Congress, was shot point blank by an unidentified gunman who fired indiscriminately into the crowd, NPR and other U.S. media said.
About a dozen others at the meeting were shot and the gunman was wrestled to the ground and taken into custody, Fox said, citing an eyewitness.
Giffords was airlifted to a hospital to a hospital after the shooting.
Re-elected in the November 2 election, Giffords focused on immigration reform, military issues, stem cell research and alternative energy while serving in Congress. She was married to U.S. astronaut Mark Kelly
This wacko shoulda never had a semi automatic gun. This kinda thing wouldn’t happen.
If some of the good people there were armed then maybe loughner wound have been stopped faster. Guns are already out there, so are bad people. good people need an equal defense. god bless all involved.
