HARRISBURG – The Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded $466,730 to Coudersport for a flood control project, Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) announced today.

“Maintaining our flood-control infrastructure is vital to public health and safety in Coudersport and areas downstream,” Causer said.

The grant will be used to raise the levee, add an embankment and remove debris and sediments from the Allegheny River levee. The borough also will modify the Mill Creek levee by raising it, adding embankment material and removing debris and sediments. The repairs and upgrades will allow for Federal Emergency Management Agency certification and accreditation, which ensures homeowners and businesses in the area remain eligible for repair and rehabilitation funds. This remediation project will impact 125 homes, 44 businesses and one school.

The funding is provided through the H2O PA program, which provides grants for flood control projects; construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer projects; and high-hazard or unsafe dam projects.
