Westboro Baptist Church making Local Headlines
The Westboro Baptist Church, known for picketing soldier funerals, has announced their intentions to picket the funeral of Army Sgt. Devin A. Snyder; a solider killed in Afghanistan. Snyder was one of three killed by a roadside bomb in the Laghman Province in Afghanistan on June 4.
Snyder was a 2008 graduate of Wayland-Cohocton High School.
The funeral is this Saturday, June 18, in Wayland, NY and the family has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend. The group has been actively involved in shielding families from Westboro Baptist Church protesters in the past.
Friends of the family are asking the public to join them by registering on the Patriot Guard Riders of New York website, and then attending the funeral.
A group organizer said those wishing to support the Riders must register at the website before attending funeral, to prevent from being kept at a distance with the protesters.
